Naples in few words

Naples is the third-largest city in Italy. It is shaped in the form of semicircle,
between the volcanic amphitheatres of the Flegrean fields and Vesuvius.
A wonderful climate, a spectacular sea, and dramatically beautiful views, have
been subsequently imprinted by the ancient civilisations which have passed
through the gulf leaving behind them the traces of their art and architecture and
infusing the area with a mixture of different traditions and cultures.
Naples, the city of the Siren Parthenope, was founded about 600 B.C. perhaps
by Greek colonists. The city retained its Greek traditions, customs and language
after its conquest by the Roman. During the Roman Empire it was celebrated as
a rich and elegant cultural centre where the Roman emperors and aristocracy
came to spend the summer months.
The Bay of Naples is, in fact, one of the richest areas for archaeological, artistic,
and monumental works, as well as being a land of great popular traditions.
It is renowned for the warmth of the people and their passion for music, dance,
and the dramatic arts. The life and vitality of Neapolitan people give to Naples a
special feel. Naples has a little bit of everything: the old centre, once the heart
of the ancient Neapolis and now jammed with ancient churches and countless
restaurants and cafés, pulsates to the life of noisy street markets and the chaos
of a city at work.

We are all enthusiastic for the opportunity of organizing this special event and
we hope that all the researchers interested in Social Science Methodology will
profitably participate to the meeting in Naples, finding the time for enjoying the
peculiarity of our Mediterranean city.
